Leading Lawn Care Franchise Makes Unprecedented Move, Unifies Brand’s International Franchise System
January 23, 2019 // Franchising.com // CLEVELAND - After nearly 50 years leading Weed Man as President, co-founder Brenda Rice has announced her retirement. Keeping ownership in the Weed Man network, the master franchisor for the United States, spearheaded by CEO Roger Mongeon, has formed a new company, TH Canada Inc., and has taken over leadership of the Canadian territories. In total, the team now oversees over 680 territories worldwide.
Weed Man was launched in Mississauga, Ontario in 1970 by the late founder Desmond “Des” Rice and his wife Brenda. The couple started franchising in 1976 and the vision to be the trusted lawn care company became a reality in the UK and across North America.
Jennifer Lemcke, COO of the growing company, promises to work diligently with all the Weed Man Canada franchisees in her effort to continue building on the brand’s legacy and grow the brand as one cohesive unit. Lemcke states, “The transition has been exhilarating and my team respects the responsibility we now have to take this recognized brand to new heights as we enter the future as a united front.”
The new ownership was a natural fit as Lemcke and team continue to have tremendous success with the growth of Weed Man USA. Through her efforts, the U.S.-based contingent of Weed Man was named one of the Fastest-Growing Franchises by Entrepreneur magazine’s prestigious annual Franchise 500 - earning the No. 59 spot in 2019.
